TEST ACCOMMODATIONS IN THE CLASSROOM: EXTENDED TIME, ALTERNATE
LOCATION, PROCTORS, SCRIBES, READERS
When you need to have accommodations for taking tests at Eastern, the Office of Disability Services will work with you to get the support and assistance you will need.
If test accommodations are authorized for you, here's what you must do to ensure that everything goes smoothly in each of your classes:
1. Arrange for early pick up of your memoranda from the Office of Disability Services.
2. Make an appointment with each of your instructors to deliver their copy of your memorandum. Do NOT deliver it before, during, or right after class and do NOT delay giving it to your instructor until the last minute. This is not a practical strategy because making plans to provide for your needs cannot always be done at the last minute. Instructors may be upset, and rightly so, by last minute requests.
It is always best if you present your memoranda at the BEGINNING OF EACH SEMESTER Check your instructor's syllabus for office hours and phone number. If you want to have private time with the instructor to discuss testing arrangements, make an appointment with him/her. If you do not care if other students are around when you have a conversation with the instructor about test accommodations, go when office hours are posted. Discuss your accommodations with the instructor. If either of you has a scheduling conflict, make sure it is resolved before you leave. You must not skip one class in order to get extra test time in another.
3. If you and your instructor are unable to make arrangements for your tests because of time and/or scheduling conflicts, both you and the instructor need to contact the Office of Disability Services for assistance at the beginning of the semester. We will help you both. Please remember: ADVANCE NOTICE IS NECESSARY BECAUSE OUR SPACE AND OUR TIME IS VERY LIMITED.
