What is the Business and Technology Institute?
The Business and Technology Institute is the extension center of the Lumpkin College of Business and Applied Sciences, and provides external non-credit training and research to businesses, manufacturing, and organizations in east central Illinois. EIU’s Business and Technology Institute offers training and development in a wide range of topics so your employees can learn the skills and information needed by your organization.
Can I get training at my business?
Yes. The Business and Technology Institute offers training that can be customized to meet the specific training needs of your employees. Customized training is available either on-site or a site of your choosing, and is available on your organization’s time schedule.
Who teaches the classes?
The Business and Technology Institute utilizes the expertise of Eastern Illinois University faculty as well as regional consultants to offer your business quality programming at an affordable cost. Let us help you find speakers, coaches, consultants and researchers that can offer business solutions.
Can I earn continuing education credits for programs offered through the Business and Technology Institute?
No, not on the open classes. However, if you desire CEU’s for on-site training, discuss this with us prior to booking and we will check out that possibility.
Who can attend classes?
Open enrollment classes are open to the general adult public. Early registration is strongly recommended. Classes may be canceled one week prior to the training if sufficient enrollment and attendance are not met.
How do I register for classes?
Registration for open enrollment workshops can be accomplished by:

What if I am unable to attend a class after registering?
Cancellations will be accepted up to one week prior to the training. After that time, a substitute may be sent. Late cancellations may cause termination of the entire class and deprive others of the training they need, so non-attendance after that will be charged the full rate.
How will I know if classes are cancelled due to weather?
Participants will be contacted by phone if inclement weather prevents holding the training.
Is there ever a discount of the training rate?
If you are a manufacturer or a non-profit entity, there may be grant money available to help subsidize your training. Non-profit organizations may also be eligible for grant funding on some programs. Please call and ask for details of the grant programs.
What type of payment is accepted?
Personal or corporate checks made payable to Eastern Illinois University, may be sent with registration form. We also accept VISA and MasterCard credit cards. You may send your credit card information in the mail along with your registration form, or you may call to register and pay with a credit card over the phone.
